It is a great pleasure to invite you to the 6th International Environmental Best Practices Conference “Sustainability schemes for bio-based products in the framework of the circular bioeconomy”, which will be held from 22-26 September 2019 in Olsztyn, Poland.
The Conference will be preceded (23 September 2019) by the four satellite workshops/project meetings: STAR-ProBio, EBIPREP, PANACEA, BIOmagic, and a special workshop for doctoral students & young researchers.
It is our intention to provide an excellent opportunity for the bioeconomy community to get together in a pleasant atmosphere in Olsztyn, in 2019.

SCIENTIFIC SESSION
PS1. Sustainable value chains for biomass-based products
Biomass is the only feedstock with the potential to substitute non-renewable fossil resources and to mitigate climate change. The research on biomass resources and efficient use shall be in accordance with ecosystem services of provisioning food and raw materials for numerous bio-based products, supporting nutrient recycling, regulating biodiversity and cultural well-being.
PS2. Multi-product processing – requirements on sustainability
The transformation process towards bioeconomy is closely related to progress in research on biorefinery processing where (i) biomass is rationally converted into a cascade of multi-bio-based products, (ii)any production waste composes the raw material for other bio-based products, and (iii) aerobic and anaerobic fermentations compose an integral part of the system.
PS3. Green chemistry and biotechnology – new technologies and markets
Green chemistry and biotechnology set out new areas of research aiming at the reduction of hazardous substances in processes and products and the disposal of toxic wastes. The key research focus is on designing new bio-based products that throughout their entire lifecycle have no adverse effects to environmental, economic and social well-being.
PS4. Standardisation process for natural pharmaceutical products
The standardization process of natural pharmaceutical products involves a set of biological assays in vitro as well as phytochemical for the evaluation of raw material, processings well as intermediate and end products to confirm the compliance with the standard. The session will give the insight into the current research on standards and associated procedures for natural pharmaceutical products.
PS5. Socio-economic dimensions of regulations on circular bioeconomy
The research on sustainability of bio-based products involves consideration of the whole life-cycle from the environmental, economic and social points of view. Up to now the main focus of sustainability certification and labels has been on measuring the environmental impact with the use of indicators such as greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, life cycle assessment (LCA) or product carbon footprint (PFC). The research challenge is to combine environmental assessment with estimation of economic and social impacts.
